Fairfield opens new track with win at inaugural invitational

LEESBURG — In their first outing for hosting a high school track and field meet on their newly minted home track, the Fairfield Lions and Lady Lions defeated both Lynchburg-Clay and West Union Tuesday night.
The Lions boys track and field team scored 120.5 points, defeating second-place West Union, who tallied 54 points, third-place Lynchburg-Clay at 48.5 and the Fairfield (B) team with 12 points for fourth place.

The Lady Lions won with their 100-point score, followed by Lynchburg-Clay with a score of 72 points and West Union in third at 60 points. In fourth place was West Union (B) with three points, and fifth place was Fairfield (B) with one point.
“We are very pleased and fortunate to have this fantastic facility for our community,” Fairfield coach Bill Mangus said. “The track and field program has only had a middle school program for nine years and has grown every year in numbers and quality of athlete performances.
“The Fairfield Leesburg program is very motivated and excited to continue to develop athletes, and the goal is to qualify boys and girls for the state championships in June at Ohio State. The program here is successful due to parent and community support and involvement in the sport.”
For the boys events, in the 3200-meter relay, the Lions won with the team of Matthew Mangus, Brandtson Duffie, Andrew Davis and Bennett Hodson finishing with a time of 8:55.21. In second was the Lynchburg-Clay team of Ben Bales, Frazier, Dawson Osborn and Conner Tyree, who had a final time of 10:35.93.
In the 110m hurdles, Fairfield’s Nate Buchanan won with a time of 19.30, followed in second place by teammate Garrett 19.84.
In the 100m dash, the Lions had a first-place finish by Nick Price at 12.38, followed by Wyatt Fent of FHS in second place at 12.44. In fifth place for LC was Noble Walker at 13.38, followed by Bryce Posey (FHS) at 13.41, Braighton Wise (FHS) at 13.85, Aaron Saylor (LC) 13.92, Gavin Stroop (LC) 14.81 and Coalt Tatman (LC) 15.69.
The 800m relay was won by Lynchburg-Clay’s team of Zander Blankenship, Frazier, Blake Marcelino and Walker at 1:45.80. In second was Fairfield’s team of Nathan Vidourek, Nick Price, Wyatt Fent and Tristan Victor at 1:46.68.
Next for the boys events was the 1600m run won by Davis at 5:02.35, followed by Cohen Frost (FHS) at 5:11.77. In third was Ethan Davis (FHS) at 5:13.10, and in sixth place was Gavin Campbell (FHS) at 5:25.90. Seventh place went to Tyree (LC) at 5:28.77, and finishing eighth was Osborn (LC) at 6:21.15. Ninth place went to Austin Leininger (LC) at 6:42.97.
The 400m relay was won by the Fairfield Lions with the team of Victor, Price, Fent and Posey at 48.79. In second was LCHS (Blankenship, Aaron Saylor, Stewart, Walker) at 51.43.

The eighth-place spot went to Braighton Wise (FHS) at 1:06.45, followed by Cole Parker (LC) ninth at 1:08.57 and in 10th place was Thomas Fraysier (FHS) at 1:15.22.

The 800m run winner was Hodson (FHS) at 2:17.60, and in second was Frost at 2:27.86. The fifth-place spot was Corey Mullenix (LC) at 2:48.89. The rest of the finishers for LC and FHS were Bryant Constable (LC) at 3:02.80, Cole Parker (LC) at 3:07.45 and Leininger (LC) at 3:19.72.

In eighth place was Corey Allen (FHS) at 56-11.00.

In the girls events, the Lady Lions won the 3200m relay with a time of 11:42.54 as the team of Morgan Richmond, Chloe Barber, Sarah Young and Ciara Colwell raced to the top finish. In second was the LC team of Mia McCammon, Audrey Merry, Emily Pinkerton and Madelyn Quigley with a time of 13:11.65.
Lynchburg-Clay’s Abby Blankenship won the 100m hurdles at 20.45, followed by Logan Binkley (LC) in second at 20.60 and Dakota Haynes (FHS) in third at 20.70. The fourth-place finisher was Miranda Lawhorn (LC) at 21.22, and in seventh place was Heather Sexton (LC) at 28.05.

Colwell of Fairfield won the 1600m run at 5:46.39, followed by Richmond (FHS) at 6:43.75. In third was Young (FHS) at 6:56.97, and in sixth place was McCammon (LC) at 7:26.90. The seventh-place spot went to Jessy Mullenix at 7:57.43, and in eighth place was Lilie Dearwester (LC) at 8:01.44.
The Fairfield 400m relay team of Griffith, Teeters, Harvey and Duffie were second at 58.61, and they were followed by Binkley, Zoe Fittro, Lay and Kaylee Lunsford in third for LC at 59.32. The fourth-place spot went to Fairfield (B) with a team of Harvey, Tone, Daniels and Sheppard at 1:04.32.

In fifth place was Richmond (FHS) at 1:14.92, and sixth place went to Brioli (LC) at 1:15.60. In seventh place was Lunsford (LC) at 1:15.75, while Zwiesler (LC) was eighth at 1:22.28 and in ninth place was Fittro at 1:29.51.
The 300m hurdles winner was Blankenship (LC) with a time of 58.61, and in second was Duffie (FHS) at 1:00.57. The third-place spot went to Binkley (LC) at 1:01.96, and in fourth was Lawhorn (LC) at 1:02.05. The fifth-place spot was Sexton (LC) at 1:04.65, and in sixth was Dailey (FHS) at 1:04.79.

The 3200m run winner was Colwell (FHS) at 12:38.91, and in second was Quigley (LC) at 14:41.67. Third place was earned by Barber (FHS) at 14:53.97, and in fourth was Wuellner (FHS) at 17:35.84. Dearwester (LC) was fifth at 17:55.80.
