Fairfield Middle School cross-country places 3rd at state meet

The Fairfield Middle School boys cross-country team placed third overall in the 2014 Division III Middle School State Meet on Sunday at Madison High School in Groveport.

There were a total of eight teams in the middle school state event, with the Lions scoring 88 points. Winning the event was St. Joseph Sylvania with a score of 69, and in second was Fredericktown with 81.

In fourth was New London (106), followed by Garaway Jr. High (113), Mariemont JHS (117), Fort Frye (143) and Pettisville (163).

The leading runner for FMS was Austin Setty in seventh place overall with a time of 10:58.18. Next in line for the Lions was Brandtson Duffie was 12th at 11:06.13.

Bennett Hodson placed in the Top 30, at 30th, with a time of 11:49.17 and Zane Adams followed in 31st at 11:50.46.

Gavin Campbell finished in 47th for FMS with a final time of 12:27.75 to finish in the Top 50.

Also for FMS, in 53rd overall was Ryland Donley at 12:50.05, followed by Logan Woods placing 63rd at 13:12.39 and in 79th was Rylie Friend with a final time of 16:56.80.

In recent races, FMS was second at the All City meet at Colerain and were the Southern Hills Athletic Conference champions, a feat the middle school program now has achieved for four straight years.

Also this month, FMS won at the Unioto Invitational, defeating 17 other schools.

At the middle school Highland County Invitational, the Lions were also the winners, and they were the winners at Southeastern and at the Wilmington Invitational.
