Fairfield Lions wrap up regular season with victory over Ripley

It may have taken a little longer than usual, but the Fairfield Lions finally had their regular season come to a close on Saturday night, defeating the Ripley Blue Jays, 71-49 at Grandle Gymnasium.
For the Lions, they finished the Southern Hills Athletic Conference slate of games at 11-2, as they were already crowned SHAC Division II champions earlier in the season.
FHS (15-8) led for the entire game.
Leading the Lions in scoring was senior Ryan Bates with 19 points. The post player made seven two-point baskets and was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
[[In-content Ad]]Senior Gage Montgomery followed with 11 points, and Joey Wilson, also a senior, finished with nine points.
Bates finished with a double-double as the senior collected 10 rebounds against the Blue Jays. Montgomery tallied seven boards. Montgomery also had five assists, as did teammate Brant Huff, who totaled seven points. Wilson collected 10 rebounds in the win.
Matthew Leach and Dustin Willey each scored eight points, with Willey making two 3-pointers.
"It was a good game, and it was nice to have a game before our next tournament game," FHS head coach Everett Snyder said. "The kids played well, and we had a nice crowd to play in front of.
"It was a good way to finish the regular season at home."
Also scoring points for the Lions were Kory Walker with four, Cody Bennett with three and Wyatt Crothers with two.
Leading the Blue Jays in scoring was Whitt with 12 points.
FHS senior Blake Hildebrant didn't play in the game due to illness.
