Fairfield Lions stay top-ranked team in Division III cross-country

For the second weekly poll and third poll counting the preseason, the Fairfield Lions are still the No. 1 ranked team in the state for Division III cross-county in rankings voted on by the OAT&CCC.

The Lions — who have won all three of the meets entered this season (McClain Opener, Seneca East and Ohio Classic) — added another first-place vote in the Week 2 regular-season poll, gaining 11 first-place votes and garnering 228 points. The only other team to earn a first-place vote was third-ranked Smithville with 205 points.

Fort Loramie is ranked second with 215 points in the vote.

The remainder of the Top 10 includes: Liberty Center in fourth with 178 points, Mapleton in fifth at 177 points and East Canton in sixth place with 163 points. The seventh-place team is Columbus Academy with 155 points, followed by Colonel Crawford in eighth place at 151, ninth-place Minster totaling 134 points and in 10th place is Houston, collecting 129 points in the vote.

Eleventh through 20th place are: Maplewood (125), Mt. Gilead (119), McDonald (114), Fredericktown (94), New London (80), Caldwell (39), Lincolnview (39), St. Henry (34), Carey (28) and Parkway (26).

The Fairfield Lions are scheduled to race again on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Mason County, Ky. From there, on Saturday, Sept. 16, the Lions will race at the Aaron Reed Memorial at Southeastern High School.

FHS is scheduled to host the Highland County Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at FHS, followed by a race on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Lancaster. They will wrap up the month on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Washington Court House.
