Fairfield Lions place 6th at 2018 Division III OHSAA State Cross-Country Championships

The Fairfield Lions boys cross-country team returned to Hebron for their annual visit to the Division III State Cross-Country Championships on Saturday afternoon at National Trail Raceway. After being postponed for a week due to weather and racing conditions, the 2018 event saw the Lions place sixth overall in a field of 20 teams.

Fairfield finished with a time of 1:28.04 as a team (183 points), averaging 17:77 per racer. The state champion was Ft. Loramie with a time of 1:26.32 as they had 127 points.

The Lions were led by senior Brandtson Duffie with a time of 17:06.7 for 23rd place overall. Next was sophomore Cohen Frost with a 40th-place finish and a time of 17:25.7.

FHS senior Austin Setty was 49th place overall with a time of 17:32.1. In 75th place overall was senior Bennett Hodson at 17:50.2.

Fairfield junior Gavin Campbell raced to a 106th-place finish with a time of 18:09.5, and junior Ethan Davis had a time of 18:17.1 for 122nd place overall. FHS sophomore Blake Haines finished 139th overall at 18:37.4.

There were a total of 181 runners in the state event.

This season the Lions won their eighth straight Southern Hills Athletic Conference championship, their eighth consecutive Division III SE District championship and were third overall at regionals. This was their sixth straight year of racing as a team at state and their eighth straight season having a representative racing for FHS at state.

Fairfield has placed in the Top 6 at state now for three consecutive seasons, with fourth-place finishes in 2016 and 2017. The Lions have placed in the Top 8 at state four straight years with an eighth-place finish in 2015.
