Fairfield Lions place 3rd at Division III regionals; qualify for cross-country state championships

The Fairfield Lions boys cross-country team are headed back to the state championships for a seventh straight year following their performance at the 2019 Division III Regional Championships held at Pickerington North High School on Saturday.

FHS finished in third place with a score of 125, making them one of the five teams from the region to qualify for state. The Lions had an average time of 17:20.56.

The top finisher for the Lions was junior Cohen Frost with a time of 16:34.2 for sixth place, and also in the Top 10 was senior Ethan Davis in eighth place at 16:36.8. Next was junior Blake Haines in 44th place with a time of 17:42.3, and in 46th place was senior Gavin Campbell at 17:43.7.

Fairfield also had junior Brant Haines finish in 62nd place for a time of 18:05.8, and in 67th place for the Lions was freshman Landry Hattan at 18:11.2. The Lions also had junior Nathan Vidourek in 105th at 20:05.9.

Also in the race was Lynchburg-Clay sophomore Austin Barnhill in 48th place at 17:46.2, and LC junior Dawson Osborn finished in 54th place at 17:49.6.

There were a total of 125 runners in the boys Division III race.

Winning the regional title was Mount Gilead with a score of 54 points, followed by Fredericktown in second place at 104 points. In third was Fairfield (125), followed by Rock Hill (147) and Garaway (159) for the Top 5 teams to qualify for state.

The team will compete at the state meet Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1:30 p.m. at National Trail Raceway.
