Fairfield Lions earn conference win over Fayetteville

The Fairfield Lions got off to a very strong start on Tuesday night in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action and didn’t let up for the remainder of the game, defeating the visiting Fayetteville Rockets, 9-3.
Fairfield’s win saw them score six runs in the bottom of the first inning, and the Rockets added one run in the second inning and two more runs in the third for a 6-3 score.
The Lions came back in the bottom of the fourth inning with their final three runs of the game for a 9-3 score.
Austin Setty was the winning pitcher where he pitched all seven innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits and four walks. He finished with one strikeout in the win.
“Austin did a great job on the mound. He started out setting the tone from the beginning. We were able to give him run support early, and that always helps,” FHS head coach Jeremy McGraw said.

The Lions totaled seven hits with Jacob Morgan going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Also gaining hits were Setty (one run, one RBI), Sam Buddelmeyer (two runs), Andrew Dingey (one run, two RBI), Ethan Grooms (two runs) and Hunter Burns (one RBI).
Wyatt Willey finished with one run, while Layne Morgan and Griffin Irvin each also scored a run.
“Jacob Morgan is starting to come on at the plate. These last two games, he has swung the bat well,” McGraw said. “I feel like we are close to putting everything to together. Wyatt Willey made a great effort play at third in the top of seventh, and it is those kind of plays that as a coach you can’t say enough about.”
