Fairfield Lions boys cross-country 1st place at Seneca East Tiger Invitational; Lady Lions 3rd

In a span of four days, the Division III No. 1 state-ranked Fairfield Lions boys cross-country team has earned two first-place finishes, winning the McClain Opener on Wednesday and then on Saturday traveling up north to win the Seneca East Tiger Invitational, defeating 30 other teams in the weekend race.

Not only did the Lions win with an average time of 17:07.20 and a team time of 1:25:35.98, but they had seniors Noah Richmond and Matthew Mangus race their way to a Top 5 finish, with Richmond placing fourth and Mangus having a fifth-place finish.

Richmond finished with a time of 16:18.84, while Mangus had a final time of 16:26.55. In all, the Lions had three racers in the Top 15 and six in the Top 20. Junior Bennett Hodson was 14th overall with a time of 17:33.76. Sophomore Ethan Davis was 17th place at 17:35.31. Two juniors, Austin Setty and Andrew Davis, were 18th and 20th, respectively. Setty had a time of 17:41.52, and Davis was 20th place at 17:43.62.

Also for the Lions, freshman Cohen Frost was 26th at 18:03.12, and junior Sam Buddelmeyer was 33rd place at 18:16.43. The Lions also had Blake Haines at 18:50.06, followed by Gavin Campbell (19:31.61), Brant Haines (20:17.28), Gavin Cox (23:02.34), Riley Friend (25:19.39) and Orrie Friend (26:47.57).

There were a total of 225 runners in the boys races and 19 teams. In all, the Lions scored 52 points for their win, defeating the second-place team of Liberty Center by 22 points with LC having a score of 74. In third place was Mapleton (99), Seneca East (147) came in fourth and the fifth-place team was St. Paul (155).

As for the girls race, the Lady Lions were third place overall with 132 points. They had a total time of 1:52:02.21 and an average team time of 22:24.45.

For the girls, Ciara Colwell was third at 19:56.18, and also in the Top 10 was Morgan Richmond at 20:58.91.

In 20th place was Chloe Barber at 22:07.62 and in 40th was Megan Gragg at 23:02.16.

Also for the FHS girls team were: Sarah Young (25:57.34), Meadow Cunningham (26:48.44), Laynee Duffie (27:26.89) and Sarah Wuellner (28:53.33).

There were a total of 15 teams in the girls race and 164 runners.
