Fairfield Lady Lions win district championship; Colwell places first overall

Fairfield senior Ciara Colwell led the way, and the Lady Lions as a team won a 2019 Division III District Cross-Country championship on Saturday at the University of Rio Grande.

As a team, FHS placed second overall, but in the SE District the Top 2 teams in the standings win a district championship, and the same goes for the individual finishers.

For the Lady Lions, Colwell was the top finisher out of 142 runners with a first-place time of 20:00.83. In second place was Peebles sophomore Katy Seas at 20:07.35, also winning a district title.



Also from Highland County in the Top 10 finishers was Lynchburg-Clay sophomore Raelynn Ruble, finishing with a time of 21:41.89.

As for the Lady Lions, their second finisher of the race was sophomore Emily Price with a time of 23:57.96 for 36th place. Next were sophomores Anna Davis and Nayomie Ludwick in 39th and 40th place, respectively. Davis was 39th place at 24:07.22, and in 40th was Ludwick at 24:09.72.

In 54th place for the Lady Lions was sophomore Makenna Colwell at 25:00.30, and in 57th place was junior Madison Fox with a time of 25:18.41. The 66th-place finisher was Fairfield senior Payton Harvey at 25:42.70.

As a team, the Lady Lions scored 125 points with an average time of 23:27.21.

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs also had junior Sierra Benney finish in 53rd place with a time of 25:00.07, while sophomore Julia DeHart finished with a time of 25:36.45 for 64th place. Sophomore Allie Etienne was 99th overall with a time of 27:45.28.
