Fairfield Lady Lions sweep SHAC match vs. Eastern Brown

LEESBURG — The Fairfield Lady Lions are off to an excellent start this season. After winning the Spike and Dig Tournament on Saturday, the momentum from the weekend continued on Monday night with the Lady Lions sweeping their conference match over the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors in three straight sets.
Fairfield (1-0, 3-0) rarely trailed and mostly kept a comfortable distance between them and the Lady Warriors in their Southern Hills Athletic Conference contest, winning by scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 25-14 at Grandle Gymnasium.

The first set of the match saw the score tied on three occasions at 1-1, 7-7 and 8-8, and for the Lady Lions, some of their points came off a play at the net by Grace Lawson, an ace by Lauren Arnold and the score was tied at 7-7 off a point scored by Ally Davis.
A few moments later, Davis tied the score at 8-8, and a kill by Layla Hattan pushed the Lady Lions in front by a 9-8 score. Hattan later had another point scored to make it an 11-8 lead. From there, Fairfield kept the advantage with a play at the net by Lawson, followed by two consecutive kills by Kaiti White for a 19-11 lead.
FHS continued to add to their advantage with a point scored by Hattan, but Eastern answered with an ace by Bri Klickner to cut into the FHS lead for a 20-12 score in favor of the Lady Lions.
The Lady Lions made it a 22-14 lead with a kill by Lawson, followed by a block in the front of the net by Taylor Lawson. The match ended off serves, including an ace from White for the 25-15 win.
In the second set, the Lions and Lady Warriors were tied at 1-1, 2-2 and 3-3, but Fairfield controlled the set with a kill from Arnold and points scored by Davis and Hattan for a 8-4 advantage. Later in the second set, Kami Magee put Fairfield ahead by a 13-7 score with an ace.
In the latter stages of the set, Fairfield had points from Taylor Lawson and Magee to gain the second set win by a 25-12 score.
The third set was the same result for Fairfield with the score being tied early and lastly at 8-8 as they used points from Davis and Hattan to overcome an Eastern lead. From there, an ace by Grace Lawson and a play at the net by Taylor Lawson made it an 11-8 advantage.
White eventually put FHS ahead by five points with a block at the net, and that was followed in the set by Taylor Lawson for a 15-9 score.
As the third set and match concluded, Fairfield had points by Taylor Lawson, Hattan and Magee to end the match for the 25-14 win.
In JV play, Fairfield won in two sets by scores of 25-11 and 25-19.
The next match for Fairfield is an away non-conference match at East Clinton with a JV start of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
