Fairfield Lady Lions fall to Clinton-Massie

A strong first quarter for the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons set the tone for their game against host Fairfield on Monday night, as the Lady Lions were unable to battle back from a 13-point deficit after the opening frame, leading to a 66-44 non-conference loss.

Fairfield (3-2) trailed 19-6 after the first frame, and after being outscored 17-13 in the second quarter, they trailed by a 36-19 score at halftime. In the second half, FHS totaled 25 points, with 12 points in the third and 13 more points in the fourth, while CM collected 30 points in the final two quarters, with 15 points in each frame.

CM’s Miquela Santoro led all scorers with 26 points, scoring 18 points in the second half. The win moves CM to 7-0 overall.

For the Lady Lions, sophomore Grace Shope totaled 17 points, with a 7-of-14 game from the free-throw line and five two-point buckets. Shope added nine rebounds.

Also for the Lady Lions, Carly Arnold finished with eight points, and Trinity Huff finished with six points. Abigail Newark scored five points, and Macie Pauley added four points (six rebounds). With two points each were Alexis Tate and Blake Adams, as she also grabbed seven boards.

FHS finished 13-of-25 from the free-throw line in the loss, and CM was 7-of-9.

Next for the Lady Lions is a non-conference game vs. the Clermont Northeastern Lady Rockets on Wednesday.
