Fairfield Lady Lions drop home SHAC game against Fayetteville

It wasn’t a good night at Grandle Gymnasium for the Fairfield Lady Lions, as they suffered their second loss of the season, and this time it was a Southern Hills Athletic Conference loss.
Fairfield was unable to stop the visiting Fayetteville Lady Rockets Thursday night, and that resulted in the first conference loss of the season for the Lady Lions, falling by a 47-34 score.
Fayetteville got off to a strong start early on with an 11-3 lead at the end of the first frame with Kelbee Coffman scoring five points in the first with a two-pointer and a 3-pointer, while Olivia Crawford, Anne Murphy and Taylor Malone all scored two points in the first frame for the visiting team.

Fairfield’s lone basket in the first quarter came off a 3-pointer by Emma Fouch, who wrapped up the game with eight points.
For the game, Crawford led Fayetteville with 15 points (one 3-pointer and six two-point baskets), while Murphy totaled 13 points (six two-point field goals, one made free throw) in the Fayetteville win.
The second quarter was closer for FHS as they were only outscored by one point at 10-9, with Crawford, Murphy and Malone all contributing to the Fayetteville scoring.
In the second for Fairfield, Peyton Magee scored four points off two baskets, while Fouch and Haley Tolle each had two points and Cadence Saunders added a point off a free throw. Fouch finished the game with eight points.
Trailing by a 21-12 score at halftime, the Lady Lions didn’t fare better on the scoreboard in the third, being outscored by the Lady Rockets at 14-9 for a 35-21 deficit.
Fairfield gained five points from Tolle, three points from Braylynn Haines and a point off a free throw by Magee in the third. Magee led the Lady Lions with nine points, while Tolle finished with eight points.
Fayetteville’s third frame of 14 points included six of those points by Murphy and two points by Crawford, Maddie Brockman, Malone and Cassidy Feldhaus.
The fourth quarter was the closest for the Lady Lions in comparison to Fayetteville with Fairfield outscoring the Lady Rockets, 13-12.
Fairfield’s fourth and final frame had four points by Magee, three points each from Fouch and Ella Newkirk (a 3-pointer) and three points by Haines.
Fayetteville had seven of their 12 fourth-quarter points scored by Crawford, plus two points each by Malone and Feldhaus and a free-throw conversion by Murphy.
For the game, Fayetteville totaled 20 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and they were 1-of-9 from the free-throw line (11-percent). Fairfield finished with 10 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and they were 8-of-16 from the free-throw line (50-percent).
Next for the Lady Lions (3-1, 7-2) is Monday, Dec. 16 when they host the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats.
