Fairfield High School to start Athletic Hall of Fame

Fairfield Athletic Director, Matt Carson and Fairfield Athletic Booster President, Tom Purtell announced today the formation of the newly formed “Fairfield Local High School Athletic Hall of Fame”.

The Hall of Fame is organized as a way of maintaining the rich heritage and tradition of the successful athletic programs at Fairfield Local High School (including Leesburg High School, Highland High School, and Samantha High School).  In addition, it will serve as a means of recognizing, preserving, and honoring the athletes, teams, coaches, and individuals who made significant contributions to these athletic programs.

The Athletic Director, Matt Carson and a committee appointed by Booster President, Tom Purtell has been working for a few years on the idea of a Hall of Fame.  The committee over the last three months has developed the “Guidelines for Nomination and Selection of the Fairfield Local High School Hall of Fame”  and the “Athletic Hall of Fame Nomination Form”.   The formation of the Hall of Fame was approved by the Fairfield Local Board of Education at their November meeting.

The Hall of Fame is governed by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee and consists of nine memebers:

    Persons may be nominated to the Hall of Fame by anyone as a player, a coach, or a contributor to the athletic programs.  A player is not eligible until ten (10) years after graduation from Fairfield Local High School.  The Hall of Fame Selection Committee may choose to select teams for induction into the Hall of Fame. 

    The inaugural Hall of Fame class will be inducted on Saturday, February 5, 2011, and honored at a ceremony prior to the boys varsity game with Adena.  The Hall of Fame Selection Committee will continue to accept nominations until January 8, 2011.

    The “Guidelines for Nomination and Selection of the Fairfield Local High School Hall of Fame”  and the “Athletic Hall of Fame Nomination Form” are available at the athletic director’s office, the high school office, the district office, and on the Fairfield Local Schools website:
