Fairfield cross-country teams race over weekend
The Fairfield High School boys earned the second-place trophy at the Aaron Reed Memorial Invitational, held at Southeastern High School on Saturday, Sept. 13 in Chillicothe.
Unioto High School placed first.
The Lions defeated Logan, Zane Trace, Waverly, Hillsboro, Gallia Academy, Westfall, Piketon, Miami Trace, Alexander, Huntington, Chillicothe, Washington Court House, Nelsonville-York, Southeastern, Wellston, Paint Valley, Amanda-Clearcreek, Portsmouth Clay and East Clinton.
The first-place runner for Fairfield was once again Wyatt Evans, who placed sixth overall with a time of 17:31. Matthew Mangus was 11th at 17:54, and Trent Swisher finished 23rd at 18:29.
Also for FHS, Noah Richmond finished 28th (18:39), Nick Price was 40th (19:09), Dillon Burley was 53rd (19:42) and seventh man Tucker Ayres finished 54th at 19:46.

"We had our best performance so far this season," FHS assistant coach Bill Mangus said. "Finishing runner-up to an outstanding Unioto High School team, one of the premier programs in the state of Ohio that has qualified for the state meet the past 11 consecutive years, is a nice performance for this young team."
The Fairfield Middle School boys were able to run away with the first-place trophy without the services of their third man, Bennett Hodson.
An undefeated Austin Setty was once again the first-place runner on Saturday with a time of 11:51 on the two mile course. Brandtson Duffie placed third with a time of 12:00.
Also for FMS times were: Sam Buddelmeyer, 16th, 13:14; Zane Adams, 17th,13:15; Gavin Campbell, 41st, 14:17; Ethan Davis, 47th, 14:38; and seventh man Logan Woods, 56th, 15:04.
The Fairfield Middle School girls placed fourth behind Alexander, Logan and Unioto.
Alexis Swisher was the first runner for Fairfield, as she placed 17th with a time of 15:58. Also for FMS, times were: Megan Gragg, 32nd,16:47; Ailean Duffie, 44th, 17:29; Rachael Schuler, 46th, 17:31; Lauren Arnold, 49th, 17:43; Brianna Barnes, 61st, 18:21; and seventh was Meadow Cunningham, 87th, 21:24.
