Fairfield cross-country sweeps Ohio Classic; Ciara Colwell wins girls event

The Fairfield varsity cross-country teams won the 2018 Ohio Classic cross-country events at Liberty Park in Hillsboro Saturday morning, including Fairfield’s Ciara Colwell winning the girls varsity event.
In the girls event, the Lady Lions were the team winners with a score of 48, having a team time of 2:01:45. Colwell was the race winner with a time of 21:19. Also in the Top 10 were Morgan Richmond in ninth place at 24:25 and Megan Gragg in 10th at 24:45.

Also for the Lady Lions in the Top 20 were Anna Davis in 12th place at 25:18, Audra Greiner in 17th place at 25:58 and Makenna Colwell in 19th place at 26:27. Other times for Fairfield included: 24, Emily Price, 27:40; 28, Payton Harvey, 29:00; 41, Maddie Griffith, 33:39; 42, Meadow Cunningham, 33:54; and 49, Hannah Hodson, 36:00.
Hillsboro was fourth place as a team with a total of five runners in their host event. Mollie McCreary was third place overall with a time of 22:26, and also gaining a Top 20 placement was Clara Page in 16th place at 25:47. Also for the Lady Indians, times included: 23, Keeley Schurman, 27:26; 33, Rylee Callahan, 30:59; and 46, Trinity Howard, 34:25.
For the McClain Lady Tigers, they didn’t have a team total as they totaled two runners in the event with times including: 55, Catlin Willis, 38:12 and 56, Maysun Faulconer, 38:17.
Final team times for the girls varsity race included: 1, Fairfield, 48 (2:01:45); 2, Eastern Brown, 50 (2:02:52); 3, Western Brown, 91 (2:12:58); 4, Hillsboro, 110 (2:21:03); 5, Miami Trace, 120 (2:28:15); 6, East Clinton, 140 (2:33:30); and 7, Adena, 151 (2:34:28).
The Fairfield boys team — who are ranked third in the state in Division III boys cross-country — won the Ohio Classic with seven runners in the Top 20, and of those runners, five were in the Top 10, including race runner-up Ethan Davis, who had a time of 17:53 for his second-place finish.
In third place was Austin Setty at 18:02, and in fifth place was Cohen Frost at 18:14. Brandtson Duffie placed sixth overall with a time of 18:18, and in ninth place was Bennett Hodson at 18:31. Also for the Lions, times included: 19, Blake Haines, 19:29; 20, Gavin Campbell, 19:40; 30, Brant Haines, 20:48; 52, Riley Friend, 23:19; 64, Gavin Cox, 25:00; and 78, Orrie Friend, 27:17.
The McClain Tigers were sixth place overall, as their top finisher was Reece Schluep in 15th place with a time of 19:20. Also for the Tigers, times included: 31, Lyle White, 21:08; 33, Luke Bliss, 21:16; 35, Paul Bliss, 21:29; 63, Miles McMurry, 24:52; 65, Chance Lane, 25:18; 66, Ty Baker, 25:19; 68, Bryson Badgley, 25:25; 74, Matthew Milnes, 26:49; 81, Mason Reichman, 28:50; 82, Wilson Oliva, 28:50 and 84, Nick Cunningham, 29:57.
