Fairfield cross-country sweeps Highland County Invitational
LEESBURG — The Fairfield cross-country program dominated the 2017 Highland County Invitational, winning all levels of high school and junior high school on Tuesday at FHS as all five Highland County schools competed in the event.
The Division III No. 1 state-ranked and undefeated Lions won the event by taking nine of the Top 10 spots, winning the team title with a score of 15 as junior Austin Setty was the winner of the race, sprinting to the finish line with a time of 16:59. In second place was senior Matthew Mangus at 17:02.
FHS also took third through sixth place, with the third overall spot going to freshman Cohen Frost at 17:28, followed by a fourth-place finish from junior Bennett Hodson with a time of 17:35 and in fifth place was sophomore Ethan Davis at 17:36. The sixth-place spot went to senior Andrew Davis at 17:43,
giving the Lions the top six spots.

In seventh place was Whiteoak junior Hunter Morgan at 17:52, followed by Fairfield junior Brandtson Duffie at 18:05, freshman Blake Haines at 18:06 and junior Sam Buddelmeyer at 18:24.
Hillsboro’s top finisher was freshman Jonathan Hatfield in 11th place at 18:35. McClain’s top finisher was junior Reece Schluep in 12th place at 18:52, and Lynchburg-Clay’s top finisher was freshman Dawson Osborn in 22nd place with a time of 20:52.
In all, there were 47 runners in the event, with the second-place team spot for the boys going to Hillsboro (65), followed by Whiteoak (69), McClain (96) and Lynchburg-Clay (126).
In the girls event, the Lady Lions won by scoring 22 points, as there were three final team scores. In second was Hillsboro (46), and in third place was Lynchburg-Clay (59).
Out of 22 girls runners, the winner of the event was FHS sophomore Ciara Colwell with a time of 21:00. In second was FHS freshman Morgan Richmond with a time of 22:07, and in third was Hillsboro junior Molly McCreary at 22:40. The fourth-place spot went to FHS senior Chloe Barber at 22:43, and rounding out the Top 5 was FHS junior Megan Gragg at 23:05.

The middle school boys winner was Fairfield with a team total of 29. The overall individual winner for boys junior high was eighth grader Austin Barnhill of Lynchburg-Clay with a time of 12:16.
Fairfield girls won with a score of 21, and the girls individual winner was Whiteoak eighth grader Raelynn Ruble with a time of 14:39.
