Fairfield adds 3 more state qualifiers at Day 2 regionals; 5 total state qualifying events

The bar has set high for all future Fairfield Lions boys and girls track teams with the 2017 squad having a total of five events qualifying to the Division III State Track and Field Championships.
On Day 2 of the Division III Regional Track and Field Championships, the Lions added three more state qualifiers to the two events they already achieved earlier in the week.
On Friday, the Lions added the boys 1600-meter run, the 800m run and the 3200m run to their state list, going with the boys 4x800m relay team and Blake Adams in the girls shot put event.
As for the Day 2 results, the Lions had two regional runners-up at Fairfield Union High School in Lancaster with sophomore Brandtson Duffie placing second in the 800m run with a time of 1:58.48. That regional time was an improvement on his time from a week ago where at districts he ran a time of 1:59.43.
Junior Matthew Mangus was also a regional runner-up with his time of 10:03.41 in the 3200m run. At districts a week ago, Mangus had a time of 10:04.27.
The Lions also will have Noah Richmond racing at the state level next weekend with the junior qualifying for the 1600m run. At regionals on Friday, Richmond finished with a third-place time of 4:32.08, also an improvement from his district time of 4:32.46.
On Day 1 of the regionals this past Wednesday, qualifying for state were the Fairfield boys 4x800m relay team of Mangus, Richmond, Duffie and Trent Swisher, along with junior Blake Adams qualifying in the girls shot put event.
In the boys 4x800m relay race at regionals, the Lions finished with a time of 8:22.41, for fourth place to qualify for state. FHS improved their overall time from their previous meet at districts when the Lions set a SE District record of 8:23.96 last week to win the district championship.
Adams placed third in the shot put event with a finals distance of 37-05.50. At regionals, Adams also had throws of 32-08, 37-04.25, 33-03.50 and 33-11. At districts last week to qualify for regionals, Adams, a junior, had a shot put distance of 37-06.00.
The 2017 OHSAA Division III Track and Field Championships will be held on Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, located on the campus of The Ohio State University.
