Fairfield Middle School seventh grader Grace Shope and FMS eighth grader Wyatt Evans raced their way to the girls and boys middle school Highland County Invitational championship Tuesday at Fairfield High School.
Shope raced the junior high course with a time of 13:30, followed by second-place McKenzie Hamm (a Hillsboro eighth grader) with a time of 14:07.
The remaining Top 10 runners in the girls race included: 3, Angela McLaughlin (LC) 14:32; 4, Codi Haynes (FMS) 14:43; 5, Shelby Chisman (LC) 14:55; 6, Shaylan Ridenbaugh (HMS) 15:04; 7, Megan Kinsey (HMS) 15:18, 8, Sam Bullock (HMS) 15:33; 9, Sam Pierson (LC) 15:53 and 10, Emily Pinkerton (LC) 15:59.
For the boys race, Evans was first with a time of 11:38, followed in second place by Trent Tate (FMS) at 11:59.

In the overall team standings (girls), HMS was first with 35 points, followed by Lynchburg-Clay in second at 38. In third was FMS with 65 points, and Greenfield Middle School was fourth with 104.

The top finisher for the Hillsboro boys team was Noah Kunce in fourth place with a time of 12:30. Britton Haines came in ninth with a time of 13:24. Also finishing in the top 20 were Justin Scott, 14th, 14:01; Jacob Stauss, 15th, 14:24; and Colin Bullock, 17th, 14:39. Spencer Brown finished with a time of 16:58, followed by Steven Burton at 18:23, Will Mahan at 19:12 and Fred Green at 26:52. For Hillsboro, McKenzie Hamm finished second with a time of 14:07. Coming in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, were Shaylan Ridenbaugh (15:04), Megan Kinsey (15:18) and Sam Bullock (15:33). Four other Hillsboro runners finished consecutively, with Cadence Myers coming in 12th with a time of 16:04, followed by Ashleigh Baucom at 16:05, Tessa Ernst at 16:06 and Emily Young at 16:09. Other Hillsboro runners include Lauren Brown, 17:22; Abi Shoaff, 17:30; Morgan Holland, 17:49; Ellie Howland, 18:05; Kayla Brunner, 18:12; Samantha Stodgel, 18:42; Emily Earley, 19:04; Samantha Fletcher, 19:22; Riley Moberly, 19:44; and Mia Trimble, 21:55.
Brandon McCammon of Lynchburg-Clay finished in eighth with a time of 13:23. Also running for the boys team were Jacob Magie, 17:33; Braden Bailey, 17:49; Corey Mullenix, 19:51; Levi Mootz, 20:10. Lynchburg-Clay girls had four runners in the top 10, including Angela McLaughlin in third with a time of 14:32; Shelby Chisman, fifth, 14:55; Sam Pierson, ninth, 15:53; and Emily Pinkerton, 15:59, 10th. McKayla Binkley came in 11th with a time of 16:02. Carlee Smaltz came in 19th place with a time of 16:45, while Lexi Waits finished in 20th with a time of 16:58.
McClain had one runner in the boys event, Aiden McManus, who ended with a time of 21:34. Greenfield's top finishers were Taylor Polley, who finished 16th with a time of 16:17, and Maria Onusko, who came in 17th at 16:22. Also racing for Greenfield were Emily Parker, 18:27; Veronica Olaker, 18:42; Ariana Schroeder, 21:10; Lauren Fabin, 21:54; and Evynn Paul, 23:56.
Trever Yeager placed 12th for Whiteoak at 13:57, followed by Charley Skinner at 16th and 14:37. Joey Oliver came in 18th at a time of 14:40. Other runners for Whiteoak included Ian Holmes, 15:24; Michael Crowe, 15:25; Zach Shannon, 16:19. Whiteoak's lone runner for the girls event, Maggie Carr, finished in 18th place with a time of 16:26.
