Evans scores 6 goals; Lady Lions topple McClain

GREENFIELD — Fairfield junior Kaitlin Evans took the lead and her teammates followed, as the Fairfield Lady Lions defeated the McClain Lady Tigers, 8-3 Monday at McClain Field in Greenfield.
Evans couldn't be stopped in the non-league matchup between the South Central Ohio League and the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, and with that occurrence, goals were the reward as she finished the game with six goals, including a hat trick, plus one in the first half as she totaled four in the first 40 minutes for a 5-1 halftime lead.
Evans added two more goals in the second half as Fairfield stands at 3-5 overall.
"Kaitlin played well, but the whole team played well," FHS head coach Sam Spargur said. "We have good games and we have bad ones, but (Monday) was one of the good ones.
"Coming off fair week where we didn't have a full team at practices, I was pleased with how we played."
Another standout of the Lady Lions was keeper Lizzie Jones.
"Lizzie is new at goalie this year," Spargur said. "I've been working with her, and she's been coming a long way."
Though Evans scored multiple goals, she didn't score the very first goal of the match, as that distinction went to Kylie Allen at the 36:23 mark for a 1-0 lead.

From there, the Lady Lions went ahead by a 2-0 score as Evans shot and made a goal from 20 yards out at the 35:55 mark.
The first MHS goal came with 16:05 left in the first half as Taylor Polley gained possession around 45 yards away from the goal and proceeded to take the ball downfield, shooting the ball from around 10 yards out for a goal, cutting the FHS lead in half.
Polley finished the match with a hat trick.
From there, it was all Lady Lions to end the first half with Evans scoring her second goal off a deflection at the 11:43 mark, followed by a penalty kick conversion with 4:36 left in the half. The fifth goal came with 4.6 left on the scoreboard to put FHS up at the time by four goals.
Evans added to her scoring totals as she netted goal No. 5 with 26:30 left in the match with a goal near the net, then another goal, her sixth, with 23:50 remaining for a 7-1 lead.
The FHS lead went to seven goals when Heather Sanderson broke away from the MHS defense and scored a goal from around 10 yards away for an 8-1 lead.
MHS added a second goal to their lead with Polley scoring at the 8:42 mark, and she obtained her hat trick with 8:00 left in the match for an 8-3 score.
