Duffie commits to Division I Lehigh University

Fairfield senior cross-country and track state qualifier Brandtson Duffie recently signed to attend Lehigh University, a Division I school in Bethlehem, Pa., next fall for both sports, as he is one of the premier high school runners in the state.

Duffie not only is a state qualifier in both cross-country and track, but he’s qualified for events as an individual and as part of a team throughout his high school tenure.

The Fairfield senior this past fall qualified as an individual at the Division III State Cross-Country Championships with a 20th-place finish at regionals with a time of 17:05.2, as Duffie has raced at the state cross-country meet in three straight years with his teammates.

Duffie placed 23rd overall at this past fall’s state cross-country championships with a time of 17:06.7, as the Lions finished no worse than sixth in all three of Duffie’s visits to the state cross-country championships. Also during his senior year, Duffie had times of 17:05.7 (regionals) and 17:35.71 (districts). He was also the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Runner of the Year.

As a junior, Duffie had a state cross-country time of 17:52.7, and during his sophomore year Duffie’s state time was 18:10.01.

Duffie, who had a PR of 16:52 during his high school cross-country career, also competes at an even higher level on the track. Duffie is a two-time state track qualifier, winning district and regional championships as a junior, along with being a state placer that same year.

During his junior year of track, Duffie propelled himself to a third-place finish at the Division III State Track and Field Championships with a PR of 1:56.23 in the 800-meter run. Getting to that point, Duffie won a regional title with a time of 1:57.06, a district title with a time of 1:59.06 and a conference championship at 2:08.50.

During his sophomore year, Duffie was sixth at state at 1:57.95, while at regionals he raced to a time of 1:58.48. At districts his sophomore year, Duffie had a time of 1:59.4, and his conference meet time was 2:05.00.
