Domination by Fairfield Lady Lions leads to win over West Union

From start to finish, the Fairfield Lady Lions dominated their Southern Hills Athletic Conference foe, the West Union Dragons, on Monday evening, leading to a 71-33 win over their conference rival en route to their third win of the season.
Fairfield saw seven players reach the scoring column, and within those seven scorers, four of them were in double figures in what was the 38-point victory.
The Lady Lions were led in scoring by sophomore Emma Fouch with 17 points as she collected two two-point buckets, sank four 3-pointers (all within the first three quarters) and was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line.

Madison Bronner was next on the scoring sheet with 12 points, making five two-point field goals in the game, along with a 2-of-4 performance from the free-throw line.
Both Ella Newkirk and Peyton Magee each scored 11 points in the win, as Newkirk totaled five two-point field goals and was 1-of-1 in her free-throw shooting. Magee finished with four two-point buckets and one 3-pointer.
Also in the scoring column for the Lady Lions was Haley Tolle with nine points, as her night included three two-point baskets, plus she was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Cadence Saunders finished with six points for Fairfield as she totaled two two-point baskets, and she was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line in the third quarter.
Rounding out the FHS scoring was Braylynn Haines with five points, with the sophomore totaling two two-point baskets in the third frame and she was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
As for how the game turned out, Fairfield got off to a very strong start with the team scoring 14 points in the opening eight minutes with the points coming off two 3-pointers from Fouch and one basket each by Newkirk, Magee, Saunders and Bronner.
On the opposite side of the first frame, West Union totaled nine points with six of those coming off three baskets by Molly Purcell, who finished the game with eight points. Also for WUHS in the opening frame, Maddie Taylor scored two points and Alexa Rowe made one free throw.
Fairfield took over the game in the second quarter with the eight minutes of in-game action leading to the Lady Lions outscoring the Lady Dragons, 19-2 as not only the offense was stout, but he defense was stifling.
The 19-point frame for the Lady Lions included five points by Newkirk, a 3-pointer from Fouch, two points by Magee and five points by Tolle as she was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line in the frame.
Also in the second, Saunders and Bronner each sank a basket.
Fairfield added 22 points in the third, increasing their lead to 55-24 with WUHS scoring 13 points in the same quarter.
The Lady Lions’ points in the third consisted of four points from Newkirk, a 3-pointer from both Fouch and Magee, plus two points by Tolle.
Saunders added two made free throws on two attempts in the third frame, while Bronner added three points for the Lady Lions and Haines scored four points in the third.
The final 16 points for FHS in the fourth quarter were scored by Fouch with five, Magee with four, Bronner with four and scoring two points was Tolle.
For the game, Fairfield totaled 23 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers, and they were 10-of-13 from the free-throw line. FHS also had 17 turnovers and committed 15 fouls.
West Union finished with nine two-point baskets made, plus two 3-pointers, and they were 9-of-13 from the free-throw line. The Lady Dragons also had 15 turnovers and 14 fouls.
The win by the Lady Lions moves them to 3-1 overall this season. Next they will face the East Clinton Lady Astros on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at ECHS.
