Cox pitches perfect game as Lions shutout Rockets; JV team starts 2-0

It was a perfect day for Fairfield's Taylor Cox in JV play when he stepped on the mound against the Fayetteville Rockets.

As the Fairfield Lions JV team improved to 2-0 on the season by defeating Fayetteville 10-0 in five innings, Cox pitched a perfect game, striking out 14 of 15 batters.  

Offensively, Dylan Rohde was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Joey Wilson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Sammy Williamson finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, along with Cody Bennett and Wyatt Crothers each gaining a hit.

"It was a great team performance, we swung the bats extremely well and put the ball into play," JV coach Jeremy Miller said. "(Taylor) Cox was just dominant on the mound. He was really hitting his spots."

Cox threw 66 pitches, 47 for strikes.

FHS also defeated the Washington Blue Lions' JV team, 2-1 to open the season.  

Joey Wilson got the win on the mound. He pitched four innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. He allowed one run on one hit.

Cox pitched in relief for three innings, finishing with four strikeouts, three walks and no hits.  

Offensively, Cody Bennett was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Ryan Bates went 1-for-3.  

"I thought it was a good win for being the first time out this season," Miller said. "We threw strikes, and we made the plays when we had to."[[In-content Ad]]
