Ciara Colwell 34th at 2018 Div. III State Cross-Country Championships

Fairfield junior Ciara Colwell become the first female cross-country athlete for Fairfield High School to become a two-time state participant by racing in the 2018 OHSAA Division III State Cross-Country Championships on Saturday.

In the race in Hebron, held at the National Trail Raceway, Colwell battled the 30-plus degree weather for a 34th-place finish in with a time of 20:27.1, a race that had a total of 179 runners in the state event.

After the first split in the state race, Colwell had a time of 6:02.8, and following the second split of the race, the junior Lady Lion had a time of 12:44.8. She finished with an average mile of 6:34.5.

This season, Colwell had a lot of success in varying events. She placed 15th at regionals two weeks ago in Pickerington with a time of 20:20.4. Colwell also finished at 21:17.09 in the district race at Rio Grande. At the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Championships this season, Colwell was the conference runner-up at 20:07 for the second place finish at Ripley High School.

Also from the SHAC at Division III state was Peebles senior Jenny Seas, who was third place overall with a time of 18:57.9.

The Peebles girls team raced at state, finishing in 13th place out of 20 teams. Peebles scored 305 points.
