Carson extends hitting streak; Lions sweep doubleheader

The Fairfield Lions not only gained two wins Saturday afternoon against Southern Hills League foe Eastern Brown, they did it in convincing fashion in pre-scheduled five-inning games.

Fairfield won the first game of their twin bill 10-5 and the second game 8-1 at EBHS.

The two wins improve the Lions to 11-6 overall and 7-3 in the SHL.

In game one, the Lions won by five runs at 10-5, led by Kyle Carson at the plate going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBIs, two doubles and one run scored.

In the two games on Saturday, Carson extended his hitting streak to 13 games, where he is 23-for-44 in that span.

Ian Adams finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.

The Lions finished with 13 hits and five errors.
FHS opened the game with two runs in the first and three in the second for a five-run lead after two innings.

In the two-run first, Adams and Carson scored for the early lead. Adams led off the inning with a single. After stealing second, he scored on a double by Carson. Carson was plated on a double by Nathaniel Miller.

In the second, Joey Wilson led off the inning by taking first after being hit by a pitch but was out on a pick-off throw by the Eastern catcher.

With one out, Jordan Boles singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher by Blake Hildebrant. Adams singled in Boles, and Cody Bennett singled in Adams, who stole second base before the base hit.  

The final run of the second came with Carson singling in Bennett.

Fairfield added one run in the fourth with Hildebrant scoring on a double by Carson.

Then came the fifth, where the Lions put the game away with four runs on four hits.

Tolle began the fifth with a single and moved to second on a base hit by Dakota Hargrave. With one out, Jordan Boles loaded the bases with a walk.

Hildebrant brought home Tolle on a bases-loaded walk for the RBI. Adams followed with a single to plate Hargrave.

With two outs in the fifth, Carson singled, scoring Boles, and Hildebrant scored on a wild pitch.

Joey Wilson (1-0), a freshman, gained his first varsity win of his high school career. He pitched five innings, tossing a two-hitter with two walks and five runs, none earned.  

The Warriors scored two runs in the third and three in the fifth.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Lions were victors, 8-1, in another pre-scheduled five-inning game at EBHS, where the Lions were the home team.
The Lions scored early and often with a four-run first inning, followed up with two two-run innings in the third and fourth innings, to total their eight runs.

Ian Adams began the bottom of the first with a triple, swinging the bat on a 3-0 count. With one out, Kyle Carson took first on a field error by the Warriors.

The Lions quickly scored three runs in a swing of the bat when Nathaniel Miller hit a home run, on a 0-1 count, clearing the bases for three runs.
 
The final Lion run of the first inning was scored when Joey Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Cody Tolle. Tolle reached the bases with a two-base hit.

Miller led off the bottom of the third with a single. Ryan Bates, who entered the game as Miller's pinch runner, advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Cody Tolle sent Bates home with a triple and was replaced on the bases by pinch runner Dylan Rohde.  

Rohde scored on a single by Joey Wilson.

The final two FHS runs came in the bottom of the fourth with Gage Montgomery leading off the inning with a double. He scored on a double hit by Carson. Tolle then doubled in Carson for the final two runs.

Tolle led FHS at the plate with a 3-for-3 day, hitting two doubles and a triple. Miller went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Miller was the winning pitcher, going three innings on the mound. He allowed one hit, no runs and no walks. The senior struck out two batters.

Wilson pitched two innings of relief for the Lions, allowing one hit, one walk and one earned run.
