Basketball division changes for SHAC and FAC schools for 2017-18 season

Five total area basketball programs will be playing in a new division during the high school basketball postseason for the 2017-18 season, as four schools from the Southern Hills Athletic Conference and one school from the newly minted Frontier Athletic Conference have switched divisions.
One school from Highland County, the Fairfield Lady Lions basketball team, will now be a member of Division III, moving up a division as they’ve been a part of Division IV. Also from the SHAC, the Peebles girsls team will move down to Division IV from Division III.
The last two seasons, the Fairfield Lady Lions have played in the district semifinals in Division IV.
Two boys basketball teams from the SHAC will also be making moves, including the Fayetteville Rockets going from Division IV to Division III and the Ripley Blue Jays doing the opposite as they are now members of Division IV, dropping down from Division III.

In the FAC, the Chillicothe Cavaliers boys basketball team was the lone program that will have to make a move, jumping up to Division I from Division II.
The announcement came on Thursday when the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) released the new division via a press release. The statement said:
“For the first time, Competitive Balance roster data was used in determining divisional alignments in basketball, which is the only OHSAA winter sport affected by the Competitive Balance regulation that OHSAA member schools adopted by referendum vote in 2014 … Division assignments are based on gender-specific enrollment numbers provided to the OHSAA by the Ohio Department of Education. Enrollment figures are then modified in the sports football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, softball and baseball based on Competitive Balance roster data submitted by each school.”
The remaining schools (both boys and girls basketball programs) will stay the same, including both Hillsboro and McClain teams from Highland County staying in Division II, while in the SHAC, Lynchburg-Clay and Whiteoak are also staying the same in both programs. The FHS boys are also staying in Division IV.
