Area bowlers compete in Lynchburg-Clay Invitational

Three Highland County teams were among the competitors in the Lynchburg-Clay Bowling Invitational, hosted by the Mustangs Monday, Jan. 16 at Highland Lanes.

On the girls side, Fairfield won the event with 2,925 pins, with the host Lady Mustangs scoring a 2,885 for second place. Whiteoak was fifth with a score of 1,694. Other final team totals included Ripley in third (2,477) and Bethel-Tate in fourth (2,436).

The girls invitational was won by Lynchburg-Clay’s Sarah McKinney with 547 pins. Fairfield had the third- and fourth-place finishers in Hannah Ferguson (493) and Kara Gleadle (479) pins, respectively. Other All-Tournament Team finishers (Top 5 individuals) were runner-up Kaylee Randolph of Bethel-Tate, 546, and Anna Castle of Ripley in fifth place, 444.

In the boys event, Highland County took the top three sports, with the host Lynchburg-Clay team winning the invitational with 3,653 pins. The Fairfield Lions were runners-up with 3,522, followed by Whiteoak in third (3,515). Rounding out the team scoring were Ripley in fourth (2,932) and Bethel-Tate in fifth (2,897).

The boys All-Tournament Team featured all Highland County bowlers. Whiteoak’s Jake Ward won the event with 634 pins, followed by Ethan Fetters of Fairfield in second place with 619. LC had the next two finishers, with Noah Bitzer in third with 595 pins and Damien Frye in fourth with 584. The fifth-place spot went to Whiteoak’s Isaiah Rowe, who bowled a 564.
