14 runs send Lady Lions to 3rd straight victory

Following a few days of rain the Fairfield Lady Lions were finally able to get back on the the softball diamond and continued their strong start to the 2018 season, defeating the Paint Valley Lady Bearcats on Saturday in convincing fashion with a 14-0 five-inning run-rule win.
Kaiti White threw her third consecutive shutout of the young season, allowing just one hit while striking out 12 Lady Bearcat batters in the five inning game. The Lady Lion defense again played errorless softball behind White, and the Lady Lion offense generated 14 runs of 10 hits as Lauren Arnold and Layla Hattan led the offense with two hits each.
The Lady Lions offense got off the bus swinging, scoring all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning. Lyndee Spargur led off the game with an infield single and stole second base, followed with Carli Reiber and White walking to load the bases.
Spargur scored on a wild pitch as Reiber and Hayleigh Lowe (running for White) advanced to second and third. Emily Williams singled up the middle to score Reiber and Hattan singled to centerfield to drive in Lowe.
Arnold drove in Williams and Hattan with a base hit and Megan Crum (running for Arnold) scored on a wild pitch to give the Lady Lions a 6-0 lead. Hattan finished the game 2-for-2 with one one and one RBI and Arnold was 2-for-2 with one run and four RBIs.
White struck out the side in order in the bottom of the first inning on 10 pitches.
The offense of Fairfield failed to score in the top of the second inning, but added five more runs in the top of the third inning, beginning with one out as Madi Fox reached first on a infield single. Spargur, Reiber and White all drew walks, forcing in a run and load the bases. Williams reached first base safely on error driving in Spargur. Hattan singled to drive in Reiber and Arnold followed with a single off the right field fence, driving home Lowe (running for White) and Williams.
Fairfield finished the scoring in the top of the fourth inning with three runs, starting off with Reiber drawing a walk. White followed with a single and pinch hitter Taylor Lawson singled. Pinch hitter Ashley Sanderson was hit by a pitch, and pinch hitter Gracie Lawson walked.
White (3-0) finished the bottom of the fifth inning just like she started the game, striking out the side in order.
The Fairfield Lady Lions are scheduled to travel to Manchester this upcoming Tuesday as they return to Southern Hills Athletic Conference (SHAC) play, starting at 5 p.m.
