13 runs, 13 hits send Fairfield to win over North Adams
LEESBURG — For the second straight game, the Fairfield Lady Lions left the field with a Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory, this time using 13 hits to help gain a 13-1 victory on a cold evening at Fairfield High School.
The Lady Lions scored enough in the first inning when they left the inning with a 1-0 advantage to gain the win, but for good measure, they added two six-run innings, with a six-run second and a six-run third, to their run total.
In the first, Lyndee Spargur reached the bases with a lead-off walk and later scored on a fly ball to centerfield off the bat of Layla Hattan. Spargur finished 2-for-3 with two hits, three runs, three RBI and one walk.
“The girls showed up ready to play,” FHS head coach Mark Dettwiller said. “They put the ball in play hard and were able to put the bunts down and do the little things. We played solid on defense, but we still have some things to work on. We didn’t have any errors, but we have a couple things we need to work on. It wasn’t bad at all, and we’ll take it.”

The Lady Lions’ lead went to seven runs in the second inning with one of their aforementioned six-run innings. The second began with a base hit by Molly Thackston, and from there, Megan Gragg singled. Next was Madison Fox hitting into a fielder’s choice — scoring Thackston — and a base hit by Spargur that scored Gragg.
The second inning continued with a single by Carli Reiber to score Fox, and Hattan hit into a fielder’s choice to plate Spargur. The scoring continued with a Lauren Arnold double for the fifth and sixth runs of the inning, scoring Reiber and Hattan.
Following the only run by the Lady Green Devils in the top of the third as Lexie Inskeep crossed home plate, Fairfield came back with another six runs in the bottom of the third.
Fairfield opened the third with a single by Gragg, and she eventually moved to second base. Fox moved Gragg to third with a base hit, and Fox also went to second base.
Spargur singled in the ensuing at-bat for to score Gragg and Fox, and she also rounded the bases in the same sequence for three more Fairfield runs.
Still in the third, Kaiti White hit a one-out single, then went to second on a fly ball to centerfield by Hattan. Arnold followed with a base hit to score White. Ashley Sanderson followed with a base hit to load the bases. From there, Thackston doubled to plate Arnold and Sanderson for the final two runs of the game.
White finished 2-for-2 with one runs and one walk. Arnold also had two hits at 2-for-2 with one run, one walk and three RBI. Gragg went 2-for-3 with two runs, and Thackston was 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI.
Finishing with one hit each were Reiber, Sanderson and Fox.
White was the winning pitcher for the Lady Lions, improving her overall record to 5-1 on the season. Against North Adams, she went all five innings in the circle, allowing one run (earned) on four hits and no walks. White collected seven strikeouts and faced 19 batters.
Next for the Lady Lions is a schedule full of games as they are scheduled to play every day for the rest of the week, including a road game on Tuesday at West Union, followed by a game Wednesday at Whiteoak and Thursday at home vs. Ripley. Over the weekend, FHS is scheduled to travel to Akron to play four games.
