Fairfield Lions repeat as SHAC Div. I champions

Two years in a row, the Fairfield Lions have won the Division I Southern Hills Athletic Conference championship, and in 2023 they won the title with one conference game left on the schedule.

On Friday (May 5) the Lions gained a run-rule victory at home against the visiting North Adams Green Devils, by a 10-0 score in six innings.

The run-rule victory for Fairfield included a first inning with two runs and a bottom of the second inning where they scored two runs for a 5-0 lead. In the fifth, the Lions added a run, and in the bottom of the sixth they scored four runs for the 10-run win.

FHS collected 11 hits and had one error, and North Adams totaled five hits and committed no errors.

At the plate for Fairfield, they had Gabe Fouch finish 2-for-4 with two runs, and one of his hits was a triple.

Cade Miller went 2-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and a HBP. Teammate Wyatt Willey went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Noah Allering ended the game at 1-for-2 with one run and a walk. Wyatt Collins went 1-for-2 with a run and a walk. Blaine Fauber was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Zane Matthews went 1-for-2 with a HBP. Dow Moon finished the win at 1-for-2 with three runs, one RBI and a steal.

Miller was the winning pitcher as he pitched all six innings, allowing no runs on five hits and two walks. He totaled seven strikeouts in the winning effort.

The Lions are now 11-1 in the SHAC and have one conference game remaining on Tuesday vs. Manchester to complete the conference schedule. Overall, the Lions are 16-5 this season.

On Thursday, May 4, Fairfield defeated West Union 8-2 in SHAC action.

FHS started the game with a run crossing the plate in the bottom of the first, followed by a two-run second inning. West Union responded with a run in the top of the fourth.

The Lions roared back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-1 lead. The sixth inning saw the Dragons score a run, and the Lions tacked on two more runs for the final 8-2 score.

West Union totaled two hits and committed six errors. For the winning Lions, they had 10 hits and two errors.

Landry Hattan was 2-for-4 with one run, and teammate Dow Moon went 2-for-4 with one run. Both Hattan and Moon each collected two RBI.

Noah Allering finished 1-for-3 with two RBI, and teammate Wyatt Collins was 1-for-4 with one run.

Fairfield also had Gabe Fouch go 1-for-1 with one run, and Wyatt Harner also finished 1-for-1 with a run and HBP.

Elijah Humphreys was 1-for-2 at the plate with a double, and Zane Matthews ended his day at 1-for-2 with two runs, a double and a steal.

Also for the Lions, Owen Larrick had a steal, and Cade Miller scored a run.

Humphreys pitched four innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits and no walks with five strikeouts. Matthews pitched three innings and allowed one earned run on one hit, no walks and six strikeouts.
