Fairfield Lady Lions shut out Highland County counterpart Hillsboro

LEESBURG — The Fairfield Lady Lions began their 2023 soccer season by scoring a goal in each 40-minute half, resulting in a non-conference win over visiting Highland County rival, the Hillsboro Lady Indians on Friday night.
The shutout win by Fairfield (1-0) saw FHS score a first-half goal by Kennedy Zink for the 1-0 halftime lead. In the second half, the Lady Lions added to their lead against Hillsboro (0-1) with a goal from Vivian Henninger.
At goal, keeper Claire Newkirk finished with six saves, as she and the FHS defense had a shutout against the Lady Indians.
Fairfield is next scheduled to play again on Monday, Aug. 21 at home vs. the Peebles Lady Indians at 4:30 p.m. in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action.
Hillsboro’s next game is scheduled to be played on Thursday, Aug. 17 at home against Piketon, 5 p.m.
