Eva Fay Johnston Conner

Eva Fay Johnston Conner, 90, of Bainbridge, passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, at the Greenfield Skilled Nursing Center.

Fay was born Oct. 19, 1932, in Rock, W.Va., the daughter of the late William Andrew Johnston and Eva (Davis) Johnston.

Fay was a longtime member of the Bainbridge Church of Christ. Fay graduated from nurses training in June of 1954. She married the love of her life, Hendsley, on Feb. 16, 1954, in York, S.C., and while Fay was finishing her schooling, her and Hendsley hid their marriage because they were in violation of the “no married women” policy by the nursing school.

While Hendsley was serving in the United States Air Force, Fay worked at several hospitals through the years. Upon his retirement, they moved to Highland County, Fay began working at the Highland District Hospital, and after 13 years she retired in 1992. She enjoyed reading, and she loved her time traveling to all 50 states with her husband in their motorhome. She loved her family and will be greatly missed.

Fay is survived by her husband of 69 years, Hendsley “Hench” Randolph “Randy” Conner; son, Kevin Conner; daughter, Kathy Lynn (Ken) Ventura; grandson, Frank Randolph (Stephanie) Ventura; granddaughter, Brandi Jade Ventura; two brothers, Bobby Johnston and Doug Johnston; a sister, Mary Ann Cox; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kerry Randolph Conner; four brothers, Ralph, Andrew, Ken and Dick Johnston; and four sisters, Billie Stump, Joyce Carre, Carol Dalton and Barbara Alderman.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro, and on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023, visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Directory in Princeton, W.Va. Funeral services will follow both visitations at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, W.Va. following her service on Thursday, Aug. 10.
