Carson Emery, a 2023 Whiteoak graduate, was honored June 27 as a 2023 OHSAA/SEDAB Scholar-Athlete Scholarship Recipient, according to a post by the Southeast District Athletic Board.

During the OHSAA Scholar-Athlete Banquet, 18 representatives from Southeast District schools were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship and a $100 gift card. According to the OHSAA, “Recipients are selected based on a point system which rewards students for grade point averages; class rank; community service; varsity letters earned; and individual and team athletic honors. The number of scholarship recipients from each district are based upon the number of schools within the district.”

Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors, who must have a GPA of at least 3.25 and a minimum of three varsity letters in one OHSAA-sanctioned sport or four varsity letters in a combination of any two or more OHSAA-sanctioned sport.

Emery was a member of Whiteoak’s varsity golf, basketball and baseball teams.

Other Southeast District scholarship winners included: George Arnett and Lucie Ashkettle of Valley; Xander Dornon of South Point; Dax Estep of Paint Valley; Keetyn Hupp of North Adams; Leighton Loge of Nelsonville-York; Isabella Neal and Ronald Rowley of Fairfield Union; Reid Packer of Sheridan; Zander Rawlins and Riley Raynard of South Webster; Samuel Simpson of Rock Hill; Ethan White and Evan Williams of Ironton; Madison Whittaker and Nolan Wright of Wheelersburg; and Jiarui Zhang of Zane Trace.
