Zane Trace students select name for Adena’s new surgical robot

Nine local elementary schools throughout Fayette, Highland, Jackson, Pickaway and Ross counties participated in Adena Health System’s Name That Robot contest for the chance to name Adena’s new robotic surgical system.
Adena announced earlier this month the expansion of their Robotic Surgery Program at Adena Regional Medical Center completing the purchase and installation of the da Vinci X and da Vinci Xi Surgical Systems into its operating rooms.

Congratulations to Mrs. Lori Berry’s fourth grade class at Zane Trace Elementary School, who came away the winner with their submission, Chester:
· preCise;
· sHorter hospital stay;
· easy rEcovery;
· lesS pain;
· fasTer;
· fEwer infections;
· less scaRring.
For winning, the class received a special recognition certificate as well as a MAX Robot, an interactive robot with customizable learning programs.
“After a classroom discussion about what the da Vinci Xi robot is capable of, we started brainstorming ways to incorporate all of that data into a proper name for the robot,” Mrs. Berry explained. “This was a great opportunity to explore something new and incorporate our anecdote lesson. We look forward to putting the MAX Robot together and creating a fun way to learn out of that.”
Since Adena’s Robotic Surgery Program began in October 2012 with a single da Vinci Si, it has transformed from an upstart to becoming nationally recognized as an “Epicenter of Excellence,” only one of five hospitals to receive this distinction in Ohio.
