Winners named in SSCC writing competition
 
 
Winners have been announced in the 2009-10 writing contest which was open to current Southern State Community College students. Coordinator Bob Headley, SSCC professor of English, said the contest was conducted with a blind-judging format. Judges for the contest included Rainee Angles, Luann Edwards, Ken Holliday, Cathy LaParl, Angel Lemke, Annie Rankin and Jeff Wallace.
  · POETRY:  First Prize ($50) awarded to “Composure” by Toni A. Penwell of Washington C.H.; Second Prize ($25) awarded to “Freezing Reign” by Toni A. Penwell of Washington C.H.
· FICTION: First Prize ($50) awarded to “Homesteader” by Dora E. Graham of Lynchburg; Second Prize ($25) awarded to “The Queen of Hearts” by Tarina Quraishi of Peebles.
· CREATIVE NON-FICTION: First Prize ($50) awarded to “Toss Me a Lifejacket, I’m Drowning in Fun” by  Kait Gillman of Hillsboro; Second Prize ($25) awarded to “Are We Still in the Burning Times, Or Did I Miss Something?” by  Stacy Mullenix-Fairley of Greenfield.
· DRAMA: First Prize ($50) awarded to “Cold Cases” by Penny Cooper of Bainbridge; Second Prize ($25) awarded to “Porridge” by Paul Davis of Hillsboro.
