Wilmington Institute for Lifelong Learning announces Spring 2015 courses

Registration is under way this week for the Spring 2015 slate of courses for older residents available through the Wilmington Institute for Lifelong Learning (WILL). The term runs from March 9 through May 8.

This spring’s 21 seminars range from Investing: Some Ways to Succeed and The Art of Asia in the Cincinnati Art Museum to the Star Wars saga and Container Gardening. Seminars fill quickly and registration runs through March 5.

Registration can be accomplished by completing the form in the course booklet (available at https://www.wilmington.edu and at various locations through the community) or by contacting program director Margaret Guentert at Wilmington College, (937) 382-6661 ext. 226 or margaret_guentert@wilmington.edu.

The cost for a course is $60 for each of the first two seminars and $30 for subsequent ones with scholarships available for those in need of financial support. WILL is designed as an authentic educational opportunity for those persons over 40 years old with a will to continue learning.

Additional seminar offerings include: Reading and Writing Memoirs, Thomas and John: The Doubting and Beloved Disciples, A Study of Lincoln Artifacts, Using Your Digital Photos, A Fort Ancient Adventure, Travel: The World Is Too Big to Be Unexplored, Tastefully Unique, Medicare 101, Wood Carving, Quilt Tops 101, What Can Your DNA Tell About You?, Buckeyes on Pennsylvania Avenue: Ohio’s Presidents, The Speeches We All Must Make, Yoga for Seniors, Spanish, Stained Glass Possibilities and Bird Watching.

Guentert, who retired from WC’s English faculty in 2009, is directing the institute as an educational outlet for motivated persons wishing to learn and be challenged. “These seminars are designed for those with a passion to know, those eager to share ideas and learn new things,” she said.

The seminars vary in class frequency and duration, but the majority of the courses range from four to eight weeks with classes meeting once a week for one or two hours.
