WHS grads Kiley Sosby and Taylor (Tate) Chambers receive 2015 Marconette Scholarship

Whiteoak High School graduates Kiley Sosby and Taylor (Tate) Chambers were recently awarded the Marconette Scholarship.

This is the second year the Marconette Scholarship was presented. It was started as a memorial for Russell and Donna Marconette because of their love for education and the community.

Russell Marconette was a 1934 graduate of Whiteoak High School. He started his own Huckster Truck, where he sold groceries off a truck, when he was 14 years old.

He started a parts business at 18 and then volunteered into the service of World War II, where he was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Corps. After Marconette came out of the service, he went back into his auto parts business, R.W. Marconette Distribution, which he operated for 80 years. He passed away at the age of 97 in December 2013.

Donna Marconette was a 1939 graduate of McClain High School in Greenfield and a 1943 graduate of Muskingum College. She taught for 21 years as a first-grade teacher. When she retired from teaching, she kept books for R.W. Marconette Distribution.
