October has been known as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month for over 25 years.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a collaboration of national public service organizations, professional medical associations and government agencies working together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease, and provide greater access to services.

This year, the Whiteoak volleyball team has once again contributed to Breast Cancer Awareness Month by holding Volley for the Cure.

Each volleyball player and all WHS fans wore all pink and really went all out to show their support for the fight against breast cancer in this year’s Volley for the Cure game vs. Manchester, which took place on Oct. 1.

All funds collected were raised from selling breast cancer awareness T-shirts, a donation-based bake sale and a silent auction that took place during the game.

With the help from the team, Volley for the Cure adviser Carol Rahe and helpers Brandy and Tammy McClure and Emma Wardlow, and all the businesses that contributed donations, more than $1,300 was raised for the Susan G. Komen fund to fight against breast cancer.

Thank you to all the businesses and individuals who donated items to the event: Chuck Wait Tire, Holtfield Coffee Station, Old Y Restaurant, Mowrystown Chop Shop, Dakotas, Bob Evans, Stoneelements.com, Country Inn, Pampered Chef (Kim Cooper), Mary Kay (Marty Bratton), Toys ‘R Us, Kreations by Kara Mark Edenfield Inc., Kroger, Paul Mitchell Salon, Living Springs Church, LaRosa’s, Butterbee’s, McDonald’s, Skyline Mt. Orab, Golf Galaxy, Advanced Auto Parts, Star Cinemas, Five Point Implement, Mikayla Burns, O’Reilly’s, Susie Lucas Massage and Fitness, Irish Green Lawn Care and Gilliland Insurance.
