West receives award from OSBA and OESCA

Roger West, a board member of the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center, was recently honored with the Ohio School Boards Association’s Veterans Board Member Award at the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) 55th Capital Conference on Nov. 10 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Veteran Board Member Award honors those who have completed twenty-five years of service. The state of Ohio has over 3,400 board members and this year only 30 received this honor.
West also received the Ohio Educational Service Center Association’s (OESCA) Distinguished Service Award for 25 years of service. OESCA’s Distinguished Service Award honors board members with 20 years or more of service on the educational service center board as well as any other service for other local boards.
He has served on the Highland County Board of Education from 1985 until 1997 when the Highland County Board of Education merged with the Clinton and Fayette County Boards of Education to form the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center. He has served in many roles on the board including Legislative Liaison, Vice-President, and President.
In addition, Mr. West is currently serving as President of the Southern Hills Joint Vocational School Board of Education. He has served on the Southern Hills JVS board for the past 24 years. “Mr. West is a very thoughtful board member, who bases all his decisions upon what is best for all students,” said Tony Long, Superintendent of Southern Ohio Educational Service Center.
