VFW Post 9094, VFW Auxiliary Post 9094 honor scholarship contest winners

This May, the VFW Post 9094 and VFW Auxiliary Post 9094 hosted the end-of-year scholarship banquet for students who took part in this past school year’s scholarship contests.
This year, students entered the Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen essay contests. All students who entered were from the Hillsboro Christian Academy.
The Voice of Democracy contest received 21 entries, and the first-place winner was also entered into the District 4 finals. McKenna Hatfield took first place and won $100; Emma Robb placed second and was awarded $75; and Jordyn Zimmerman earned third with a $50 prize.
The Patriot’s Pen essay contest had 38 entries, with the top two advancing to the District. Jonah Brannon took first place and $100; Kari Flowers earned second place and $75; Marshall Mason placed third with a $50 prize; and Daniel Curtin earned an Honorable Mention and won a $25 gift certificate from Ignite Nutrition in Hillsboro.
All of these students competed for over $450 worth of local prizes, with the chance to win several thousand dollars in national winnings.
The VFW Post 9094 and VFW Auxiliary Post 9094 would like to thank all the students that took part in this school year’s contests, as well as Ignite Nutrition for sponsoring a prize and the Highland County Veterans Services and the Chillicothe VA Medical Center’s VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement Department for providing gift bags for each of these contest winners.
