Trey Moberly earns Franklin B. Walter award
On Wednesday, April 15, the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) recognized 82 of Ohio’s top students from across the state during the 26th annual Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Awards Program, named in honor of Ohio's 31st State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
The award was established in 1989 by the OESCA to promote and recognize outstanding student leaders for their academic achievement and service to their school and communities.
One senior from each county in Ohio is eligible to receive this honor, and Trey Moberly, a senior at Hillsboro High School, was selected as the Highland County winner from the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center.
"Over the last 26 years, the OESCA has recognized over 2,000 scholars and student leaders during this event," said Tony Long, Southern Ohio ESC Superintendent. "We wish Trey great success as he pursues his studies at the college level."
Moberly is ranked first in his class and has been accepted by both the University of Akron and Youngstown State University. He plans to major in pre-medicine studies.
As a student leader, Moberly serves as president of the National Honor Society and is a varsity athlete in cross-country, soccer, basketball and baseball.
Moberly has been recognized for his academic and athletic achievements by the Penn Station Greater Cincinnati Area Scholar Athlete of the Month, All South Central Ohio League Athlete, All Southeastern Ohio District Division II, Academic All-Ohio and High Honor Roll.
Looking to the future, Moberly hopes to gain admittance into an accelerated medical school program and become a practicing dermatologist in or near his community.
“I want to be able to return home to practice medicine because my community is important to me, and helping those I know sounds about as good as it gets,” Moberly said.
