Trees for Arbor Day

Lead Summary

The street department of the city of Hillsboro passed out seedling trees to first grade students at Hillsboro Elementary in honor of Arbor Day.
Joined by Hillsboro Mayor Dick Zink and safety and service director Ralph Holt, the street department members distributed the Austrian Pine trees to each first-grader - a city tradition that has been conducted each spring for many years.
Street department superintendent Steve Pence said Lowe's donated the bags that the trees were distributed in, and the city provided the trees.
Department members Aaron Milburn and Dave Stafford also participated.
"We do this every year," Zink told the students. "We ask that you take the trees home, and plant them so that in the future they will be able to provide shelter for birds and wildlife."
The first-graders shouted a collective "thank you" to the city.
