Todd Book, of Scioto County, has announced his candidacy for the 10th District of the State Board of Education.

“Education is of paramount importance. I don’t think the State has a more crucial function than properly educating its children,” Book said.

“I’m excited about the possibility of serving on the State Board.”

Book previously served as a State Representative from 2003 until 2010, when term limits required him to leave the Legislature.

During his tenure at the Statehouse, Book was seen as an independent voice that focused on policy over politics. “I would be honored to serve in such a critical position and work toward making Ohio’s Education system the best it can be” Book stated.

Book is a Probate and Estate Planning attorney in Portsmouth with the firm of Harcha Book & Beck.

He received his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University and his law degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia.

He is active in Portsmouth Civic Forum and is a Trustee at the Second Presbyterian Church. He and his wife Emily have three school-aged children and live in McDermott, Ohio.

The 10th District of the State Board of Education includes all of Adams, Brown, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Fayette, Gallia, Greene, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Madison, Pike, Ross and Scioto Counties and parts of Pickaway and Vinton Counties. The district encompasses over a million Ohio residents.

The State Board establishes the education policy for Ohio through its 19 members. Eleven Board members are elected and the governor appoints eight.
