SSCC awards Hillsboro Elks Scholarship to Maverick Ward

Southern State Community College is proud to announce the recipient of the Hillsboro Elks Scholarship for 2015. The SSCC Foundation and the Hillsboro Elks presented the award to Maverick Ward, a 2015 graduate of Hillsboro High School.

Immediately following his high school graduation, Ward enrolled in summer semester classes at Southern State where he is pursuing his Associate of Science degree.

“Southern State is the right option for me,” said Ward. “It’s local and you get a good feel for the college experience before heading off to a larger four-year university.”

The $1,000 Hillsboro Elks scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and who display an interest in community service.

“The Hillsboro Elks Lodge proudly partners with Southern State in working with students like Maverick and helping to build a stronger community,” said Dan Pearce, Hillsboro Elks Grants & Scholarship Coordinator. “Maverick’s application showed us a commitment to community service that made him an excellent candidate for this scholarship.”
