Spoerl wins McClain’s first ‘Student Caught Doing the Right Thing’ award

Lead Summary
By
Gabe Martinez-
At McClain High School, there are many students doing great things. Recently, a few students caught the attention of teachers by going above and beyond when it comes to doing the right thing. Teachers and students decided to recognize these students once a quarter, and administrators decided to award a $25 McDonald’s gift card to the student with the most nominations.

The first winner of the “Student Caught Doing the Right Thing” award is sophomore Mark Spoerl. This young man was nominated by three different teachers who emphasized that Spoerl does the right thing nearly all day, every day.

Teachers said:

• “Mark goes out of his way to help others. He is respectful, he is polite and every morning he opens the door for his fellow students.”

• “He is always such a polite young man.”

• “Many mornings when I came in, he talked with me as I did morning bus duty.”

• “He opens the door every morning for all students every day.”

The students, staff and administration would like to say thank-you to Mark Spoerl for going out of his way to do the right thing and making each day brighter for so many at McClain High School.

There were several other students recognized by teachers for doing the right thing.

• John Salyers and Garrett Brewer did the right thing when they went out of their way to help a student who had been having a very bad day. They offered encouraging words and showed they could be true friends.

• Braelynn Nichols did the right thing when she stood up and defended someone who was being treated badly.

• Tristan Jenkins did the right thing by going out of his way to bring his teacher something that she had lost.

If you see these students, please congratulate them on doing the right thing and thank them for bringing joy to others.
