Southwest Ohio school board member receives OSBA’s highest honor

A Butler County school board member has been honored with the Ohio School Boards Association’s (OSBA) most esteemed award.
Lynda O’Connor, who serves on the Lakota Local Schools board, was recognized as a 2021 All-Ohio School Board member on Nov. 7 during the OSBA Capital Conference and Trade Show. OSBA Chief Executive Officer Rick Lewis introduced All-Ohio School Board members during the First General Session of the 66th annual conference, Nov. 7-9 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
Each year, OSBA names one board of education member from each of its five regions — Central, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest — to the All-Ohio School Board. The award recognizes outstanding service to public education and represents the dedication shown by thousands of board members across the state.
O’Connor, who represents OSBA’s Southwest Region, is in her 14th year on the Lakota Local board and previously served on the Butler Tech board.
“As an adult, I knew I could make a difference in my local schools, but I also have focused on the importance of advocating at the state and federal level,” she said. “I have a passion for balancing the changing needs of our students with the expectations of community residents and businesses.”
O’Connor serves on OSBA’s Board of Trustees and is president-elect of the association’s Southwest Region Executive Committee.
“The education of our youth is one of the most critical issues impacting the future of our country,” she said. “I am honored to be part of this important work.”
