Southern Hills Career Technical Center students win state competition

Erin Collett and Hannah Meece, seniors in the Culinary Arts program at Southern Hills Career Technical Center, earned top honors in the state-level FCCLA Entrepreneurship competition in Columbus.

Their project was to develop a business plan to establish a restaurant that they named The Perfect Blend Café. The students were required to create a fifty-page portfolio describing how to start a business and also do a twenty minute presentation.

Each student used her personal strong points in the project — Erin’s in the business side and Hannah’s in choosing recipes and menus.

They both expressed gratitude for the help and encouragement from their instructor, Mrs. Julie Evans.

Erin will graduate from Eastern High School this year and plans to work for a year and save money to start college next year, planning possibly to get a degree in business. Hannah will graduate from Western Brown High School and is planning to further her culinary studies at Cincinnati State. Both students would like to eventually have their own business.

The girls will be traveling to Washington, D.C. in July to compete in the FCCLA Nationals. Speaking for both of them Erin said, “It doesn’t matter if we win, we are just happy we made Chef Evans proud!”
