At McClain High School, there is a new assistant principal, Mr. Matthew Shelton. He may be new to the school, but he’s not new to the people there.

Shelton was born and raised in Greenfield, and he graduated from MHS with the class of 2007. He went on to Ohio University in Athens for his bachelor’s degree and to Concordia University in 2016 for his master’s degree in education.

Shelton previously taught two years of elementary and two years of high school. He also taught college students for three years while he was at Ohio University as a TA in the science department (chemistry and anatomy). He spent the past three years at Greenfield Middle School as the assistant principal, and this is his first year in the high school as an assistant principal.

When asked why he wanted to be the assistant principal at McClain, Shelton said, “I want to be the assistant principal here because I have so much love and pride in my alma mater. To be in a leadership role at this building means a lot to me, because I can be directly involved with all students and teachers in the building. I feel I can make a big difference in this capacity.”

Shelton gave an update on how things are going so far this school year.

“So far, the best part has been being reunited with former students,” Shelton said. “I had all current freshmen through juniors in middle school for at least one year, so it's great to be back in the same building interacting with these students. So far, things have been smooth for the most part. There has been a lot to learn, since I've changed buildings, but I couldn't be happier than where I'm at now.”

In his free time, Shelton likes to play lots and lots of golf and follow Tiger athletics.

“I'm just very happy to have this opportunity to be the assistant principal at the most beautiful school in Ohio,” he said. “As a Greenfield native and someone who has bled purple and gold since birth, it's truly an honor and joy to walk into work every day at 7 a.m.”
