Rosenberger honored by Ohio's Career Technical Centers

State Representative Cliff Rosenberger, R-Clarksville, was honored by the Ohio Association for Career and Technical Education as the 2013 Public Servant of the Year.

The award was presented during a breakfast reception held during ACTE’s annual conference on Columbus. It recognizes individuals who have shown an unwavering commitment to career and technical education in the state.

This year the award was presented to Rosenberger who, as chairman of the Subcommittee on Higher Education for the House Finance and Appropriations Committee, led efforts to recognize student achievement at career and technical centers.

Rosenberger released the following statement on his receipt of the award as well as his work in regards to student achievement:

“The One Year Option, as we have called it, would require higher education institutions statewide to officially recognize the achievement of students who have completed courses towards their technical degrees. This means that if a nursing student completes the 90 hours of classes towards an associate’s degree at the local career technical center, institutions statewide must honor the equivalent coursework towards the nursing degree offered at each institution.

“This is an important step because it encourages students to continue their education by providing a clear path after they complete their initial education. This also helps to curb student debt by allowing credits to transfer seamlessly from one school to another without concerns for regional articulation agreements and the need to retake previously completed coursework.

“I’m very honored by this award, but even more proud of what it means for students throughout Ohio. This means better access to affordable higher education in Ohio, especially in high demand, technical career fields. This prepares our workforce for the jobs that are here, and the jobs to come.”
