The Lynchburg Masonic Lodge 178 is proud to announce that the winner of the Carl Walton Memorial Scholarship for 2017 is Quinn Walker.

Walker, the daughter of Robin and Kim Walker, graduated from Lynchburg-Clay High School and Southern State Community College this year. She participated in FFA and 4-H throughout high school. She received her State Farmer’s Degree from the State FFA organization, and was a member of both the Junior Leaders Program in 4-H and Phi Theta Kappa fraternity at SSCC.

During this summer, Walker was honored to be a part of Leadership 2.0 at the University of Cincinnati, where she is enrolled for the fall in their bachelor’s of nursing program. She hopes to become a nursing anesthetist.

In 2004, Carl Walton, a member of the Lynchburg Masonic Lodge 178, envisioned the lodge creating a foundation fund for the purpose of collecting charitable contributions to help young graduates of the Lynchburg school system to reach their educational dreams and to contribute to other community needs such as the Highland County Special Olympics.

Through Walton’s efforts and financial support, the Lynchburg Masonic Foundation Fund was created. Because of his generosity, other local charitable donations and proceeds from events and motorcycle rides, the foundation board of trustees just this past year approved to raise the annual scholarship amount from $500 to $1,000. Since its inception, the foundation has been able to give away $5,500 in scholarships to deserving students.

For those interested in making a tax-deductible contributing to the Lynchburg Masonic Foundation Fund, contact Jeff Rowley, secretary/treasurer at (937) 403-4279.
