Pupils enjoy visit to Greenfield Historical Society

The second-grade pupils of the Greenfield Exempted Village Schools recently enjoyed a visit to the Greenfield Historical Society.

The students enjoyed a look at historic transportation in Greenfield. Also included were modern-day vehicles of the Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District.

Historic vehicles that the students viewed and learned about included several buggies. One of the buggies was a mail buggy manufactured by the C.R. Patterson and Sons Company in Greenfield.

The society's Conestoga wagon was a favorite of the students. The wagon brought the Wilson family to the Greenfield area from Kentucky in the early 1800s. A third stop on the visit was the 1939 Ahrens Fox fire truck that was once used by the Greenfield Fire Department.

George Foltz and Kurt Larkin brought some of their railroad memorabilia to share and tell tales of the B&O and DT&I railroads when trains travelled through Greenfield.

The Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire department brought an ambulance and fire truck. The firemen described to the students their jobs and the tools they use to do those jobs. The students got the experience of being in an ambulance and fire truck.

Greenfield police officer James Leeth was on hand to introduce the students to Sando the police dog.

In addition to the vehicles, the students enjoyed the displays in the Grain and Hay Building and B&O Depot with its railroad and military museum.

George Foltz and Jurt Larkin shared stories and information about the railroads that ran through Greenfield.
